What can David do to Tutor Your Student?
My Tutoring Approach
As an educator with over a decade of experience, I bring enthusiasm and a student-centered approach to every session. My unique perspective as someone with high-functioning autism and ADHD has given me valuable insight into the diverse learning styles each student brings to the table. I recognize that success looks different for everyone, so I tailor my methods to fit each student's needs.
My sessions are interactive and engaging. I use thoughtful, open-ended questions to guide our discussions, ensuring we remain focused while exploring topics thoroughly. My goal is simple but powerful: every student leaves with the knowledge they came seeking and new insights they hadn't anticipated discovering.
Your success is my greatest reward.
Professional Background & Expertise
Since 2012, I have worked as a tutor, specializing in:
ELA subjects - Middle and high school essay writing, college admissions essays, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar
History & Social Studies - including AP History courses and regular history courses (primarily high school level)
Creative Writing & Coaching - Fiction and non-fiction across multiple genres
My academic journey includes a journalism and political science minor with a BA in Creative Writing and English, an MA in Creative Writing focusing on education, and ongoing MFA studies focused on speculative fiction. This diverse background allows me to connect with students across multiple disciplines.
As the founder of David T.C Writing Services, I've expanded my tutoring to provide professional services. My experience as a writing coach has helped numerous authors successfully navigate both traditional and self-publishing paths.
Success Stories
One of my most rewarding experiences involved working with a student who struggled with essay writing. Through our sessions, she mastered various essay formats and became the first in her family to graduate from high school. I later helped her craft her college admissions essay, and she earned a degree in Literature at San Jose State before moving on to her master’s degree. We maintain a connection to this day—a testament to the lasting impact of personalized education.
Beyond the Classroom
When I'm not tutoring, you'll find me traveling to new destinations like South Korea, reading books across all genres, exploring hiking trails, or working on my dystopian fantasy fiction novels—my greatest passion project.
